Health classes explained
How Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard work and what decides your rating.
Term life pricing follows rate class brackets. Naming varies among carriers, but the sequence remains: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Elite Preferred), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, plus penalties for higher likelihood. Tobacco buyers face higher versions of each.
What underwriters look at
Physique, cholesterol and BP, disease in parents before 60, traffic history, medicine list, line of work and pursuits, smoking or nicotine product use—these figure in. Top classes demand clean outcomes for almost everything; Preferred is a touch lenient; Standard Plus and Standard permit controlled conditions like managed hypertension.
How to use the quote tool
Self-assess honestly when answering the health question: Excellent corresponds with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, Average with Standard. Your quotes match that assignment; the carrier sets final classification following underwriting. Unsure? Quote both levels, then let underwriting confirm. Inflating your health won't cut your payment; it just makes your estimate wrong.
Susman Insurance Agency makes it easy to find carriers that judge your situation favorably—sometimes more crucial than basic pricing.
